The crisis in the "Security" sector is escalating. The operatic political leadership of the Ministry of Interior fuels it every day. Daniel Mitov is currently a political fuse. Boyko Borisov brought him into GERB because he needed him for his connections with American Democrats, as a former employee of their Democratic Institute. With Trump, he is no longer so necessary. He's even a burden. The moment his name came up as a potential next leader of GERB, his sentence was read. Borisov sent him to head the Ministry of Interior. From the very beginning, everyone was aware that this was not his place. It was clear he couldn't handle it. It's a separate question that he agreed. Borisov put him there just to burn him. And he did. I'm neither defending nor justifying him—I'm reasoning with a cool head. And the Deputy Minister from the Bulgarian Socialist Party, Filip Popov, who is doing God knows what in that ministry, further messed up whatever he could with an interview.
The public dissatisfaction with the "Ruse" case acted as a detonator for the sick system of the Ministry of Interior. Revelations are pouring in, photos of "gangster-cops," stories of officers who have gone to the dark side, of corruption, protection, abuses, drugs... A sick system. Very sick. Mitov is the lightning rod. All the fire is focused on him; he has sunk into ridiculous explanations, he is disoriented, useless. For now, they are holding him as a punching bag. In the background, in a safe place, stands Borisov, all in white. If the public anger is not contained, they will replace the minister with someone else. Borisov will continue to govern his gangster-style police model. And two former interior ministers with an unenviable reputation will stand as GERB MPs behind their leader. And together, they will staff and run the parallel Ministry of Interior. The source of the disease must be treated, not just its symptoms. Whether it's Mitov or Kitov, it's all the same. The model and its architect must be destroyed.
